Dutch Disney Plus trials offer an early look at app features and content

The Disney Plus streaming service has landed in the Netherlands before its official November 12 launch. The Disney Plus app is now reportedly (via The Verge) available on the Dutch Google Play Store and trials are apparently free for now.

The Play Store listing of the new streaming service confirms that this free trial is currently only available in the Netherlands. The free trial will remain open in the country until the official November 12 launch of the service. It will cost €6.99 per month or €69.99 for an annual subscription after launch.

Disney Plus will also hit the U.S. and Canada on November 12, priced at $6.99/month or $69.99/year and $8.99 CAN/ month or $89.9 CAN/year, respectively.

A reporter at The Verge who got onto the free Disney Plus trial in the Netherlands notes that the service has very few titles to present in comparison to Netflix. However, there’s a lot more to watch when compared to Apple TV+.

Disney Plus is reportedly downloadable on Android, iOS and Apple TV in the Netherlands. It also works on Safari and Chrome browsers.

Images posted on The Verge give us a glimpse of the app’s UI. The content on the service is divided into 5 categories – Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. Each of these sections have separate sub-sections of content divided by genres.

Content can be searched by title, character, or genre. Like most streaming services, there’s also an option to add titles to a Watchlist.

The settings in the Disney Plus Android app allow users to switch to a Kids profile, just like Netflix. There’s also a handy option to toggle autoplay on and off. Other app settings include the ability to switch from cellular to Wi-Fi data for offline downloads, a storage indicator, an option to set video quality, and more.

Unlike Netflix which lets you create four profiles at a time, Disney Plus reportedly allows users to create seven profiles. Only four people can stream simultaneously though.

Editor’s Pick

Currently 18 Marvel titles are available on Disney Plus in the Netherlands. However, The Verge notes that Endgame and Captain Marvel are currently missing.

Additionally, the full Star Wars franchise is available in the trial version of the service. There’s also a 4K Ultra HD and HDR section with titles like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Aladdin, Mary Poppins Returns, and more.

Overall, it was reported to be a pretty smooth, bug-free trial. We’ll only know how good the service is when it goes live in three countries on November 12, followed by two more on November 19.

Until then, head here to know all about Disney Plus, its pricing, and the content headed to the service.
