Update, May 21, 2019 (5:16PM EST): Activision confirmed today that Call of Duty: Mobile features a Battle Royale mode.
The mode lets up to 100 players play on a map that features settings from previous Call of Duty titles. Single, two-person, and four-person playlists are currently being play-tested, though we don’t know if all three playlists will be available from day one.
Before you start a Battle Royale match, you can pick certain loadout elements — these can include weapon camos, item skins, and more — and class. The mode lets you pick from six classes: Defender, Mechanic, Scout, Clown, Medic, and Ninja. Each class has its own ability and class skill.
You can even choose whether to play in first- or third-person.
Once Battle Royale begins, the match plays out as you’d expect any other battle royale-style game to play out. The map gets increasingly smaller over time as you seek out and defend against other players.
Supply crates drop from time to time, though you’ll have to contend with zombies in the immediate area. You can control four vehicles: an ATV, light helicopter, SUV, and tactical raft.
Battle Royale will be available in Call of Duty: Mobile from day one.
Original article, May 16, 2019 (7:30PM EST): Until today, details have been scarce regarding Activision’s Call of Duty: Mobile, which was announced back in March. That changes today, as Activision has released many more details of the upcoming mobile shooter on its blog.
According to Activision, Call of Duty: Mobile will include at least five multiplayer modes: Free-For-All, Frontline, Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, and Domination. Free-For-All supports up to eight players, while the other game modes support up to 10 players.
These are only the first multiplayer modes announced, so there’s still hope for fans of Kill Confirmed and Search and Destroy.
Call of Duty: Mobile will include seven maps: Nuketown, Crash, Hijacked, Crossfire, Standoff, Killhouse, and Firing Range. Activision didn’t say if it will release additional maps in future updates.
Activision also announced that multiplayer won’t be the only game mode available in Call of Duty: Mobile. The company plans to talk about additional modes sometime in the near future.
Finally, Activision divulged plenty of information about Call of Duty: Mobile’s settings and loadouts. The settings are surprisingly granular, with players able to choose whether to always be sprinting, adjust sensitivity, pick and fine-tune the gyroscope function for aiming, and tweak the camera field-of-vision.
Players can also pick between simple and advanced modes. While simple mode auto-fires at enemies when the reticle is focused on them, advanced mode allows for manual firing, choosing how you hold different weapon types, and customizing your HUD.
Shifting to loadouts, you can pick a primary and secondary weapon. You can pick and add skins for each weapon, with players also able to equip an explosive or tactical grenade. There are also weapon skills — these work similarly to specialist weapons in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 — and up to three perks for each loadout.
The settings are surprisingly granular.
Call of Duty: Mobile follows its predecessors and features scorestreaks instead of killstreaks. Scorestreaks give you in-game access to tools like the Recon Car, UAV, Air Supply Drop, and VTOL, just to name a few.
Lastly, players can pick from six confirmed characters from the Call of Duty series. Activision didn’t say if it will add more characters over time.
The Call of Duty: Mobile closed beta starts this week in India. A regional beta will start soon in Australia, with more territories thrown in the mix in the coming months.
